Jesse Kahn
Jesse holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Denver, with a focus in Mechatronic Systems Engineering. He brings nearly a decade of experience across the residential and utility-scale energy storage industry, with deep expertise in system design, fire and life-safety code compliance, and multi-jurisdiction permitting for battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Jesse's career began in utility-scale solar at SunShare, where he worked in both sales and engineering, conducting site assessments and field design. He then spent over a year at CORE (Community Office for Resource Efficiency) as the organization's on-staff technical and energy advisor, guiding residential and commercial clients on energy efficiency and earning his HERS rater certification.
Jesse went on to design and implement every production battery storage system at BrightVault, a Denver-based high-end luxury ESS company. He owned single-line diagram development and LFP-chemistry system sizing, and led code compliance strategy under NFPA 855 and IFC 1207, including UL 9540A fire testing interpretation. He managed the full permitting lifecycle end to end, from engineering stamps through plan check corrections and final inspection, working across projects nationwide.
Jesse served as the company's sole technical point of contact for builders, dealers, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), battery and inverter manufacturers, and fire protection engineers. He was also the direct voice for clients themselves, a role most engineers rarely hold, translating complex technical decisions into clear guidance for homeowners alongside his work with builders and dealers. He built and managed vendor relationships with battery and inverter manufacturers, produced and quoted custom system designs for dealers and builders, and represented the company at industry events. Jesse founded JLJ Energy Consulting to bring modern design and rapidly evolving technology to his clients, paired with dedicated customer service.
At JLJ, Jesse brings rigorous technical command of battery storage system design, energy efficiency principles, and code compliance. He pairs that expertise with the relationship-building skills that keep projects moving, resulting in systems that get approved, built, and powered on.
